The office of the Macon County Board is headed by the County Board Chairman who:

• Appoints members to County Board Committees;Oversees the operations of offices/departments subject to his appointment:  Supervisor of Assessments, Planning and Zoning, Solid Waste, Animal Control.
• Appoints subject to approval of the full County Board members to various boards that oversee such entities as the Macon County Conservation District, the Macon County Health Department, the Mental Health Board, Decatur Sanitary District, Mosquito Abatement District, fire protection and drainage districts, Regional Planning Commission, and the Macon County Historical Society/Museum.
• Prepares the agenda and resolutions for meetings of the Macon County Board as well as minutes for the meetings of its committees.
